At the Master's Table

Daily Devotional: Life or Death?

2/22/2016

At the moment of salvation, life takes on a whole new meaning. Old things passed away and all things are made new.

Picture: A rotten apple - Paul suggests our former desires and lifestyle only yield bad fruit.
Romans 6:21

“What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed?”

The moment I died to sin, I discovered a new joy: the joy in the ability to choose to do good. There is a deep satisfaction in hearing and obeying the will of God. I remember that as a young Christian the Holy Spirit told me to give to a child I had just met an object that I treasured. When I obeyed, the child was delighted to receive the tiny gift, and my heart swelled with joy over her happiness.

Such a joy is not a pat myself on the back type of joy; it is the deep satisfaction of knowing that God is pleased. Such a feeling is indescribable. It reaches down into the depth of the soul and overflows with the eternal fountain of joy that is Christ.

Thank God that He redeems us from sin! Thank God that He allows us to feel the depths of His love!

When sin tries to call you back, if the thought even crosses your mind that you wish things were like they were before God was in your life, just remember all that God has given you. Remember the moment you were born-again. Remember the joy of being forgiven! Remember the first time you felt God’s love in your heart. Remember all the wonderful moments you have spent with God and compare that to the shame you felt when you realized your sin. There is no comparison. Life with God overflows with wonders and delights while life in sin brings lies, shame, and ultimately death.

  • Reflection: Do you look back on your days of sin as your glory days? Leave a comment below to share your testimony of how God transformed your life and brought you joy unspeakable and full of glory.
