Luke 1:26-38
“…be it unto me according to thy word.”
The virgin Mary was an amazing woman. She was willing to throw away her life for God. She was willing to take the scorn of having a child out of wedlock and possibly loose her espoused husband, Joseph. After all, who would want to merry a scandalous woman?
The key to Mary’s ability to trust in God is in the previous verses; Gabriel proclaims the greatness of Christ. If I focus on my circumstances, it is hard to trust in God. I find myself wanting to nag God with questions about how He is going to pull me through trials and make straight my crooked path. Yet if I focus on God, if I recall all of His wondrous works, then I forget out my present circumstances. Trusting God is not about trusting Him to do this or that. It is about trusting in His character. When I remember that Christ will reign forever, I remember His authority and goodness. Consider how wonderful it is to sit under Christ’s rule; He never judges falsely, always takes care of His own, and humbles Himself to serve us. What a wonderful King! Forget your circumstance. Forget yourself. Look to Christ. Remember who He is, and all your doubts will vanish.
