I Corinthians 3:9-17
“For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building”
Christ is the foundation. However, it is up to us what we build on that foundation. Are we going to build of gold? Are we going to build of stubble? That is, what is the quality of our works? It is of eternal value? Is it to service to God? Or, is it work that collects material things?
Every work of man will be judged by fire. God will come to test us to see the substance of our lives. His judgments will pass through and burn up everything that is made of the substance of this world. Unless you want to see your world burn up before the holiness of God, make sure the house can accept His holy presence. If you defile your building, if you allow worldly and sinful things to make up the posts and walls of your house, Paul warns that God will destroy you when He passes by. What are your building materials? Prayer? Studying the word of God? Obedience? Love? Mercy? Grace? Or are your building materials of the world, such as strife, anger, pride, self-centeredness, greed, faithfulness, lying, or disobedience to God? If you have built your life on these worldly things, repent. Allow God to tear down your house. Then, you can build anew with the fruits of the spirit and the truth and power of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
