Why I Created This Site

When I was nominated to become the Sunday School teacher in my current home church, I immediately asked the former teacher for advice. I had taught teens in a previous church, but now I was going to be teaching any little ones who graced our doors. The former teacher's advice was simple:  Teach Jesus and Google activities.

That did not work.
When I tried to find activities for my class, I could not.  I wanted material grounded in the King James Version Bible, full of sound doctrine, and more than coloring pages.  When I could not find such materials, I just started creating my own.  Thus was born Melissa's Resource Library.

Basic Premise
The premise of this site is to help you collect everything that you need for your Sunday School class.

Believe it or not, I never attended a Sunday School in my entire life until I was saved.  I had to structure my class from the ground up.  I knew there were children's Bibles and little story books, but I am a firm believer that children are capable of far more than we give them credit for.  Once a child is able to read, I believe he/she should be reading the Word of God.  The story books are cute...but that's about it.  There's no "meat" to them.

Approach to Teaching

I Peter 2:2 tells us that spiritual milk is great for babes in Christ, but as we grow we need the meat of the Word.  Watering down everything just to put it on a “child's level” actually keeps children stuck as babes.  So many teenagers turn away from Christ because all they ever learned in Sunday School was fairy tales for sissies (in their opinion).  No one ever taught them just how real and serious our Faith is.  (For more detail, please click here to read my Philosophy of Education.)

That is why the materials on this site assume that you are teaching directly out of the Word of God (King James Version, to be exact).  These materials challenge the students with spiritually mature concepts, doctrine, and other topics that will expand their understanding of Christianity, and, hopefully, encourage students to examine their own relationship to Christ.

Goals for Melissa's Resource Library

I once attended an apologetics seminar where the speaker stated that most college-age Christians can not articulate the core values of Christianity.  I am therefore determined to make sure that any student of mine will not suffer the same fate.

If you share that sentiment, then Melissa's Resource Library is the place for you!

It is my goal to help you shape and equip young born-again believers in preparation for their adult lives.  And even if your students are unsaved, you can lay a foundation that cannot be shaken, even as they enter adulthood (Proverbs 22:6).

Thank you for joining me in an interest to help fashion Godly children.
